Austal USA Golf Tournament Raises Over $102,000 for United Way

On Thursday, March 27, Austal hosted their Third Annual Charity Golf Tournament benefiting United Way of Southwest Alabama (UWSWA) at the newly renovated Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove.  Magnolia Grove was recently named one of the “Top 50 Public Courses” by Golf World Magazine readers and hosts the LPGA Tour each spring.

“In the third year of the tournament, we were able to break $100,000, which is a fantastic achievement,” said Don Keeler, Austal USA’s Vice President of Human Resources and UWSWA’s 2014 Campaign Chair. According to Keeler, this event was an immense success and a great way to begin the UWSWA 2014-2015 campaign. Last year, UWSWA’s campaign raised over $5 million, a 5.2% increase over the previous year’s successful campaign, and Keeler hopes to break that record again.

In a special presentation following the tournament, Michael A. Tweed-Kent, Vice President and General Manager of General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems Mission Integration Systems division, presented UWSWA with a check for $10,000. This donation was the largest corporate sponsorship for the tournament.

On hand at the event were 140 golfers, including Craig Perciavalle, President of Austal USA.
