Twenty-Second Annual Day of Caring Connects Area Business with Local Nonprofits

Around 30 area businesses gave more than 500 employees the opportunity to participate in this year’s 22nd Annual Day of Caring, the region’s largest single day of volunteerism, on Friday, April 22.

Volunteers spent the work day improving the community by working on projects at United Way partner agencies in Mobile and Washington counties. The events of the day highlight the impact and power of volunteerism as an integral aspect of our civic leadership.

“Day of Caring is about taking action and encouraging individuals and local companies to be at the center of social change in southwest Alabama,” stated UWSWA President and CEO Clifford Grimes. “This day focuses on working together and actively demonstrating the collective power of individuals and local businesses to facilitate positive transformations. A community of connected individuals, united and working together for the benefit of all, is at the heart of what United Way represents.”

By participating in this event, volunteers are given the opportunity to visit the various locations of UWSWA partners and hear the stories of those whose lives have been impacted as a result of the programs funded by United Way. The volunteers worked on 30 projects throughout Mobile and Washington counties at 21 UWSWA partner agencies.

The 22nd Annual Day of Caring was sponsored by Alabama Power, BASF, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama, and Thames Batre.

Lastly, we would like to thank Abbie Bacilla, a junior graphic design major at Spring Hill College, for designing this year’s Day of Caring t-shirt. Abbie was one of several graphic design students from Spring Hill who submitted t-shirt design proposals.
