Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 119 Provids OHSA 10 Training to United Way Partner Agencies

As part of the United Way of Southwest Alabama’s community outreach and fundraising activities, we traditionally visit regularly commercial and industrial work sites. When we have these opportunities, we want to be safe and follow all the common safety protocols required.

In anticipation of being able to resume meeting face-to-face in mid-to-late 2021, we have scheduled a special free OSHA 10 training. The OSHA 10 training is available to UWSWA staff and partner agencies’ staff. The two-day training is on Monday, March 29 from 8:30AM to 1PM and Tuesday, March 30 from 8:30AM to 1PM. Both days are required for attendees to successfully complete the training. The UA Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 119 will do the training at their union hall at 2458 Old Shell Road, Mobile 36607. They are donating the instructor’s time and all the program costs. Upon completion, each attendee will receive a DOC OSHA 10 card that is does not expire.

Space is limited and registration is required. To register, email Leslie Schraeder at lschraeder@uwswa.org or call 251.431.0101 by March 12, 2021.

What Is OSHA 10 Training?

The OSHA Training Program is a way to train workers in the basics of occupational safety and health. The 10-hour OSHA Outreach courses assist employers in training and introducing employees to the basic practices of identifying, reducing, eliminating and reporting hazards associated with their work. It’s ideal for entry-level workers who don’t have any supervisory responsibilities.

Program Benefits

  • Promotes safety culture through peer training
  • Training is intended to be participatory, using hands-on activities
  • Trainers are able to tailor the training topics based on specific needs of their audience
  • Outreach training content includes hazard recognition and avoidance, workers’ rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint; it emphasizes the value of safety and health to workers, including young workers
  • Outreach training is available in languages other than English (Spanish, Polish, etc.)

What is an OSHA 10 Card Good For?

An OSHA 10 (DOL) card is an official card that US Department of Labor (DOL) issues to those who have completed an authorized OSHA 10-Hour Outreach Training Program. These cards are required in certain states and by many types of employers. There are two different OSHA 10 cards depending on which type of OSHA 10 training you take. The 10-Hour Construction DOL card is light yellow, and the 10-Hour General Industry is light blue.

How Long Is OSHA 10 Good For?

Though OSHA 10 DOL cards don’t expire at the federal level, some states or industries do have specific frequency requirements.
