New Board Trustee Spotlight: Bob Grip

UWSWA welcomes Bob Grip to our Board of Trustees. Bob is retired from Fox 10 after more than 34 years anchoring news. He is a member of the Alabama Broadcasters’ Hall of Fame, and, in 2019 was, inducted into National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) Suncoast Silver Circle

When asked why he accepted the invitation to join the board, he said, “There is no better time to reach out and help each other than now. I always viewed my role as a journalist as one offering service to the community, which is also the role of the United Way of Southwest Alabama.”

Bob has a Master’s Degree in Journalism from The Ohio State University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Boston College.

Since his retirement from Fox10 News, Bob serves as the Board of Directors’ Chair for Byzantine Catholic Seminary in Pittsburgh and as a board member for Classical Ballet of Mobile. He enjoys traveling and spending time with his two daughters, their husbands, and 4 grandchildren as well as ballroom dancing.

What does leadership mean to you?

“Leadership involves listening, evaluating and setting a course of action to use as a guidepost. It also requires the flexibility to acknowledge that course corrections may be necessary.”

What do you want Southwest Alabama to look like?

“I want the region become known for its education, superior health care and outstanding quality of life.”
