United Way Embarks on Creating New Five-Year Strategic

In February of this year, United Way of Southwest Alabama (UWSWA) began the process of developing a five-year strategic plan in order to better serve the needs of southwest Alabama and accelerate growth. At the conclusion of the process, several bold goals will be identified to guide the work of United Way in the near future.

“We are striving to assess our current strategies and review the alignment of our mission and programs to ensure that that we can change lives, have sustainable growth, produce a culture of exceptional delivery, and be the philanthropic leader in southwest Alabama,” said UWSWA President and CEO Clifford Grimes. “This plan will be the tool that provides guidance in fulfilling our mission of improving the quality of life in the community with maximum efficiency and impact.”

As part of the process, UWSWA is engaging a wide range of stakeholders, including more than a dozen focus groups, consultants from United Way Worldwide, the UWSWA Board of Trustees, and outside consultants from the University of South Alabama, including Dr. Mary Angela Coleman, Associate Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness at the university.

Suzy Hardy, UWSWA Board of Trustees member, has been  named the Strategic Planning Chair. Hardy was selected to lead the process due to her unique perspective having led Client & Community Relations efforts with PNC Bank. She maintains her position of leadership in our community by serving on several local nonprofit boards and engaging in a wide range of community service activities.
