Volunteers distribute food, water, cleaning supplies, and 250 hot meals to residents recovering from the storm.

United Way of Southwest Alabama joined the Town of Beatrice and Beatrice Volunteer Fire Department on October 14 to provide food, water, and essential supplies to residents affected by Hurricane Isaias. Working alongside local volunteers, the United Way team helped serve 203 individuals from 112 households as the community continued to address storm damage and recovery needs.

United Way assisted the town with the distribution of 250 hot meals prepared by World Central Kitchen. In a separate distribution, United Way staff worked with Beatrice volunteers to provide shelf-stable food supplied by partner agency Feeding the Gulf Coast, bottled water donated by Alabama Power Service Organization, and additional food and cleaning supplies contributed by other organizations.

The relief efforts provided immediate assistance to residents facing significant challenges following the storm. Among the households served, 47 remained without power, and residents reported  damage and cleanup needs, including fallen trees, debris, downed power lines, and damage to homes and roofs.

“Recovery begins with neighbors helping neighbors, and that’s exactly what we witnessed in Beatrice,” said Justine Bixler, President and CEO of United Way of Southwest Alabama. “The town’s leadership, its volunteer fire department, and the many organizations providing food and supplies demonstrated what communities can accomplish when everyone comes together. Our team was grateful for the opportunity to work alongside them and help families facing the difficult days after the storm.”

United Way extends its appreciation to the Town of Beatrice, Beatrice Volunteer Fire Department, World Central Kitchen, Feeding the Gulf Coast, Alabama Power Service Organization, and the volunteers and organizations that contributed to the relief efforts.
