Lindsay Lum

Meet Lindsay Lum, who celebrates her one-year work anniversary with the United Way of Southwest Alabama on January 3. Lindsay’s journey to the United Way family was serendipitous, stemming from her previous role as a Contracted Disaster Recovery Case Manager for the organization. Her interaction with the staff solidified her belief that the United Way was an incredible place to work.

Before joining the United Way, Lindsay dedicated herself to various nonprofit roles, predominantly focusing on disaster relief and mental health case management. Her career trajectory has consistently revolved around aiding those who dedicate their lives to helping others.

In her current role as the Outreach and Community Engagement Coordinator, Lindsay acts as the bridge between the community and the numerous impactful programs within United Way and its partner agencies. She showcases how donated funds actively contribute to the betterment of the community. Lindsay’s primary project at the moment is Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (DPIL), an initiative providing monthly books to children aged birth to five. She’s ardently involved in seeking grant funding to sustain this program, aiming to ensure every child on the DPIL Wait List receives the opportunity to benefit from this enriching program.

Her work directly impacts the community by fostering collaboration among agencies and ensuring resources reach those in need. Lindsay is inspired by United Way’s mission to unite the community and continually strives to embody values of compassion, teamwork, and empathy.

Outside of work, Lindsay finds solace in reading, exploring her city through tourism activities, and volunteering with organizations like the Mobile Jaycees and the Azalea Trail Maids. She is an Enneagram 6, finding accuracy and resonance in its insights.

Her workplace habits include a penchant for office supplies, ensuring she always has her favorite pens and notebooks on hand. Lindsay advises newcomers in similar fields to find joy amidst the challenges and to prioritize self-care.

Her motivating quote, “To the world, you may be one person; but to one person, you may be the world,” resonates deeply with her. Lindsay finds inspiration in unconventional places, even in the lyrics of Snoop Dogg’s Affirmation Song.

Lindsay Lum embodies the spirit of compassion and dedication, making a profound difference in the lives of others through her work with the United Way of Southwest Alabama.
