During the Annual Meeting on August 29, the United Way of Southwest Alabama (UWSWA) will celebrate the spirit of service and dedication that makes Washington County shine. With a population of 15,122, our community has always been known for its tight-knit bonds and willingness to support one another. In 2022, the UWSWA was able to provide essential funding amounting to $96,000 to 19 agencies in our county. These funds have made a significant impact by touching the lives of 11,104 individuals, showing the power of collective efforts in bringing positive change to our community.
We will also honor and recognize some extraordinary individuals and organizations in Washington County. Rev. Richmond Cheney will receive the Edith Wilcox Volunteer Award, and to Larry Darden, Joe Wayne Taylor, Michael Toomey, and Judge Jerry Turner are the 2022 Heart of Gold recipients.
In addition to recognizing these exceptional individuals, we also honor outstanding campaigns and partnerships that have made a positive impact in Washington County:
- Outstanding Campaign: BASF The Chemical Company – McIntosh Site
- Outstanding Community Partner: Millry Baptist Church
- Outstanding Campaign Coordinator: Kathy Ramgie with Tate & Lyle
