ALEXANDRIA, VA (July 29, 2020) – In support of the United Nation’s World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, July 30, United Way Worldwide is announcing new efforts supported by UPS to fight the fastest growing criminal enterprise in the world, including a ground-breaking approach that galvanizes communities in new ways to detect, stop and prevent human trafficking. The partnership is fueled by a $3 million fund, seeded by UPS employees who provided charitable contributions for these efforts for the past two years as part of the organization’s giving program.

United Way Day is a one-day fundraiser and awareness campaign for the United Way of Southwest Alabama (UWSWA) led by the retail and service industries. Vendors can feature their businesses while raising awareness and funds for the United Way and its 46 partner agencies. Vendor donations are based on a predetermined offer designed by the vendor in agreement with the UWSWA.

The United Way of Southwest Alabama (UWSWA) is hiring a Manager of Donor Relations to develop, retain and significantly grow the level of financial support and commitment to UWSWA. The individual will maintain and develop relationships with key constituents at various levels within assigned company and individual accounts as well as identify viable opportunities for additional involvement with UWSWA. The manager works closely with constituents to plan, organize and implement fundraising campaigns and other United Way activities to ensure a successful, stronger and sustained commitment. In addition, the individual will aggressively identify, recruit and develop new business prospects to ensure continued campaign growth.

Candidates will have Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong communication, public speaking, relationship-building, and fundraising/sales experience. A minimum of 3-5 years of work experience is required as well as proficiency in the Windows operating system, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, the Internet, have reliable automobile, a valid driver’s license, and automobile insurance. Candidate must reside in Mobile County. This is a non-exempt position.  Compensation will be within $30,000 to $35,000 based on the candidate’s experience.

As COVID-19 swept the nation and unemployment began to reach staggering heights, the housing crisis quickly escalated, leaving Americans seeking aid. Residents in Mobile have been faced with the threat of illegal evictions, but in the coming weeks, many could receive a lifeline.

Hancock Whitney—one of America’s strongest, safest banks—will provide $90,000 in relief assistance to those in low- and moderate-income households who have experienced job loss, furlough, or a reduction in hours of work or pay due to the economic impacts of COVID-19. Three local organizations will be the beneficiaries of the investment.

To support families during COVID, United Way is proud to announce a new resource in partnership with the National Campaign for Grade Level Reading and Nickelodeon called Noggin Cares, an educational online platform for parents with young children. Through a special link, UWSWA is able to offer Noggin Cares to the community for 90 days at no cost and no credit card required to register.
