United Way To Host an American Red Cross Blood Drive on October 4, 2023
United Way of Southwest Alabama (UWSWA) is proud to announce an upcoming American Red Cross Blood Drive scheduled for October 4th, 2023. This event is a critical step toward ensuring the availability of life-saving blood for those in need within our community.
Blood is an essential resource utilized in various medical treatments, surgeries, and emergency situations. Patients facing medical conditions such as anemia, cancer, severe injuries, and childbirth complications often rely on blood transfusions to improve their health and save lives. With each blood donation, we have the power to impact at least three lives positively.
The UWSWA Blood Drive is a collective effort to bolster our region’s blood supply, with a particular emphasis on the need for Type O blood donors. Type O blood is universally recognized as the go-to blood type for emergency situations when there is no time to determine a patient’s blood type. Additionally, Type O positive blood is the most widely used type, transfusable to Rh-positive patients of any blood type.
