Plan to attend the “Cost of Poverty Experience” presented by United Way of Southwest Alabama (UWSWA) and Communities of Transformation on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM at the Dumas Wesley Community Center located at 125 Mobile St., Mobile, AL 36607.
The Cost of Poverty Experience (COPE) is a unique and eye-opening event designed to bridge the gap between different backgrounds and foster a deeper understanding of poverty in our community. During this immersive experience, participants will gain valuable insights into the real lives of individuals and families struggling with poverty.
COPE takes participants on a simulated journey through the challenges of poverty, compressing “one month” into four fifteen-minute weeks. Through this simulation, attendees will face time constraints, budgeting obstacles, transportation issues, and more, providing a firsthand perspective on the daily struggles faced by those living in poverty.
This event is not just about raising awareness; it’s about inspiring change. By participating in COPE, you can help shift the often-negative mindset associated with poverty and be a part of advancing new programs, ideas, or strategies to address these issues in our community.
Please note that there is a maximum limit of 120 participants for this event, so be sure to secure your spot early. Tickets are $15 per person. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) may be available for Educators (with teaching certificate), Medical Professionals, and Clergy. Please notate your interest in CEUs when you order your ticket.
Don’t miss this opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of poverty and join us in our mission to create a more compassionate and informed community. Together, we can make a difference.
