Trista Stout-Walker, our dedicated Vice President of Community Impact, has been an essential part of the United Way of Southwest Alabama (UWSWA) for the past five years. Her passion for serving the community and her extensive experience in non-profit organizations make her an invaluable asset to our team.
Trista’s journey with UWSWA began from a desire to extend her reach and make a more significant impact on her community. Before joining UWSWA in 2018, she spent 12 years working with The Arc of Clarke County, one of UWSWA’s partner agencies. Her entire professional career has been dedicated to serving in local non-profits, cultivating a deep understanding of the needs and challenges faced by individuals and families in our region.
As the VP of Community Impact, Trista shoulders the responsibility of strategically allocating UWSWA’s resources to generate the most significant positive outcomes for our community. Since January 2020, she has overseen UWSWA’s programmatic operations across Choctaw, Clarke, Mobile, and Washington Counties.
One of the remarkable initiatives she spearheads is the partnership between UWSWA, United Way Worldwide, and Lyft, offering free transportation support to residents of Mobile and Mobile County. This initiative, Ride United Transportation Assistance, directly addresses a critical barrier for many in our community, providing vital support through Lyft services.
Trista’s dedication extends beyond initiatives; it resonates in her belief that every action at United Way directly impacts a neighbor in need. She takes pride in supporting and referring individuals to the exceptional nonprofits serving our counties, bridging the gap between services and those who require them.
What inspires Trista the most about UWSWA’s mission is the power of connections. Through the 211 helpline and our network of partner agencies, she sees the transformative effect of linking individuals with the services that enhance their quality of life.
Her work ethic is driven by the Golden Rule—treating others the way she wants to be treated. Trista emphasizes the importance of listening and collaborating to find tailored solutions for those in need.
Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is crucial to Trista. Finding solace in quiet moments and connecting with nature allow her to recharge. Her love for traveling, experiencing new things, and commitments to family and volunteering keep her energized outside of work.
For those entering a similar field, Trista advises the value of making connections and nurturing mentor relationships, recognizing the long-term impact of these connections throughout one’s career.
Her favorite mantras— “Stay Humble and Be Kind,” “Celebrate Your Volunteers, they are amazing human beings!” and “Always Give Thanks”—reflect her gratitude, compassion, and dedication to making a difference.
Trista Stout-Walker’s commitment to serving the community and fostering connections embodies the spirit of United Way of Southwest Alabama, impacting lives and empowering individuals to thrive.
