United Way of Southwest Alabama (United Way) is pleased to announce that it will distribute 70 refurbished laptops donated by AT&T and Human-I-T  on Friday, August 2, 2024, at the United Way office located at 218 St. Francis Street, Mobile, AL 36602.

This effort is part of the AT&T Connected Learning® initiative to help address the digital divide through internet accessibility, affordability and safe adoption. AT&T is committing $5 billion to help 25 million people get and stay connected to high-speed internet by 2030.

United Way will work closely with its partner agencies and participants in youth programs like The Basics Southwest Alabama and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to identify individuals to receive the laptops. Collaborations with organizations like AT&T and Human-IT create opportunities for youth and generate financial security for individuals, leading to a more resilient Southwest Alabama.

After the laptops have been distributed, Human-IT staff will reach out to the families/individuals to provide technical support and address digital literacy needs to ensure the connection is working and understood by household members. Recipients will have access to a call center supported by Human-IT that provides ongoing technical support and assistance so they can get connected and stay connected. Additionally, each Human-IT device comes with a one-year device warranty and one year of tech support.

All Windows-based laptops will come with Microsoft Office Software pre-loaded with no expiration date.
