United Way of Southwest Alabama, in partnership with the University of South Alabama (USA), launched its 2024 Community Campaign with an exhilarating Pep Rally on Thursday, September 5, at Moulton Tower on South’s campus. The event, themed Leading the Way: Team Up for Change, brought together top donors, USA campaign coordinators, and partner agencies to rally for a season of positive impact.

The atmosphere was electric as the USA band, cheerleaders, and Jag mascots led the charge, creating an unforgettable kickoff that set the stage for a successful campaign season.

“We started this campaign with incredible energy and a shared commitment to making a difference,” said Justine Bixler, CEO & President of United Way of Southwest Alabama. “It was inspiring to see our community come together with such enthusiasm and support.”

The event featured a dynamic lineup of speakers and activities:

  • 4:58 PM: United Way Welcome and Introduction by Justine Bixler, CEO & President
  • 5:01 PM: Campaign Chair Remarks by Patrick Murphy, Alabama Power
  • 5:04 PM: Band Music and Cheer by USA Jaguar Marching Band & Cheer Team
  • 5:09 PM: Introduction of Partner Agencies by Dr. Andi Kent, EVP & Provost
  • 5:11 PM: Partner Agency Speaker Debbie Browning, CEO of Children & Women’s Hospital
  • 5:16 PM: USA United Way Coordinator Introduction by Tracy Coleman
  • 5:18 PM: Closing Remarks by Jo Bonner, President of USA
  • 5:21 PM: Band Music and Cheer by USA Jaguar Marching Band & Cheer Team

“Since 1998, South’s employees and retirees have given more than $6 million to improve the quality of life for our neighbors in need,” said University of South Alabama President Jo Bonner. “It is my hope that USA continues to Lead the Way and we come together to support this year’s campaign.”

The event not only celebrated the beginning of the campaign but also provided a platform for partner agencies to share their stories and connect with the community, reinforcing the spirit of teamwork and collaboration that defines United Way’s mission.

United Way extends its gratitude to USA, Coca-Cola, all who attended and participated, making this kickoff a memorable start to the 2024 campaign. Together, we are leading the way for a brighter future in Southwest Alabama!
