United Way of Southwest Alabama joined Morning Star Missionary Church and community volunteers on October 15 for a special Hurricane Isaias relief distribution that served 360 individuals from 128 households in Monroeville.

Morning Star Missionary Church, located at 1178 State Route 21, regularly provides food assistance to the community. The church and United Way organized this additional distribution to help meet increased needs following Hurricane Isaias. Together with community volunteers, the team distributed food and served 200 meals to residents affected by the storm.

“Morning Star Missionary Church already plays an important role in addressing food insecurity in Monroeville, and their willingness to organize an additional distribution following Hurricane Isaias speaks to their commitment to this community,” said Lindsay Lum, Director of Community Impact for United Way of Southwest Alabama and Chair of Mobile County VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster). “Having trusted community partners ready to respond makes a tremendous difference after a disaster. Together, we can meet immediate needs while continuing to identify and address the challenges families face during recovery.”

While the distribution helped address immediate food needs, residents continue to face challenges related to storm damage. Debris and fallen tree removal remain among the community’s primary concerns, and some households are still without electricity.

United Way thanks Morning Star Missionary Church and the community volunteers who helped make the additional distribution possible. Their ongoing commitment to serving Monroeville provides an important foundation for community recovery.
