United Way of Southwest Alabama is pleased to announce the addition of Sidney Powers as its new Marketing Coordinator. With a fresh perspective and a strong passion for community engagement, Sidney will focus on expanding United Way’s reach through creative social media strategies and enhanced content, highlighting the impactful work of United Way and its community partners.
Sidney joins United Way inspired by her own family’s legacy within the organization. “My aunt has been with United Way of Central Alabama for 15 years, and I always thought it was such a meaningful job,” Sidney shares. “I loved getting to attend United Way events and witness the positive impact firsthand. It’s amazing to be part of an organization that truly helps strengthen the community.”
With a degree in Public Relations from the University of Alabama, Sidney has practical experience in nonprofit campaigns and fundraising. During her time at university, she developed and executed a fundraising campaign for the nonprofit Secret Meals in Tuscaloosa, an experience that fueled her commitment to nonprofit work. Now, at UWSWA, she is excited to apply her background and skills to foster greater connections between United Way and the community.
Sidney’s commitment to United Way’s mission is evident in her drive to engage local businesses and donors in supporting impactful solutions for the community. “What I love about the mission of United Way is how we bring people together for a greater purpose,” she explains. “I’ve always wanted to be someone who actively contributes to the community and gets to help others—this role is a perfect fit.”
Outside of her work, Sidney enjoys a balanced life through outdoor activities like running, hiking, and biking, as well as traveling and cooking. She also finds inspiration in the verse from Hebrews 11: “Faith is what makes real the things we hope for. It is proof of what we cannot see,” which motivates her as she begins her journey with United Way.
As she looks forward, Sidney encourages others starting their careers to approach their roles with dedication. “Whatever you do, try your best,” she advises.
United Way of Southwest Alabama warmly welcomes Sidney Powers and looks forward to the positive impact her passion and creativity will bring to the organization and the community.
