United Way Hosting 2023 Clarke County Annual Meeting & Award Luncheon

United Way of Southwest Alabama (UWSWA) is hosting the 2023 Clarke County Annual Meeting on Tuesday, September 12, at 11:00 a.m. at the Grove Hill United Methodist Church (104 Dubose Avenue, Grove Hill, 36451).

With a population of 22,575, Clarke County’s collective compassion and support have touched 13,050 lives through the UWSWA’s $90,145 funding to 20 partner agencies.

We will honor some extraordinary Clarke County individuals and organizations that have touched the lives of countless people in the county. The 2023 Clarke County Heart of Gold Awards recipients are Joan Chastain, Mary English, and Joy Gaddy. Their selflessness, compassion, and dedication to serving others have undoubtedly made a profound difference in our community. Their hearts of gold shine brightly, illuminating the lives of those they have helped, and we are immensely grateful for their contributions

Moreover, we are here to celebrate the exemplary work of three remarkable award recipients whose tireless efforts have significantly contributed to the betterment of our community through their campaigns. They are:

  • Outstanding Campaign: Clarke Washington EMC
  • Outstanding Community Partner: Thomasville City Schools
  • Outstanding Campaign Coordinator: LaDonna Wilson with Westervelt Lumber for their contributions.

Since 1979, the UWSWA with the Southwest Alabama Labor Council, have awarded our labor partners for their service to community and to the UWSWA. This year we honor an individual and two local unions for their service during the UWSWA Thanksgiving and Holiday Food Drives which was held for their fellow union members and the community members in Clarke County. This year, the W.O. Mozingo Community Service Award goes to Bernie Frazier a member of the Communications Workers of America Local 3709 and the Red Leachman Community Service Award goes to co-honorees, the United Steelworkers Local 1083 & Local 9-361
