We are proud to welcome Dana Mayo, Director and General Manager at Spire for the Gulf Coast and Mississippi regions, to the United Way of Southwest Alabama Board of Trustees.
Dana chose to join the Board out of a deep commitment to fostering positive and sustainable change across our region. “United Way’s comprehensive approach to addressing education, financial stability, and health aligns strongly with my values,” she shares. “I’m honored to contribute to an organization that plays such a critical role in advancing equity and opportunity across our region. Serving on the board provides a meaningful opportunity to lend my experience and perspective in support of initiatives that uplift and empower our neighbors.”
A seasoned leader with more than 30 years of service at Spire and its former subsidiary, Alagasco, Dana has held a variety of roles since starting in customer service in 1993. Today, she oversees day-to-day operations in Mobile and Baldwin counties, as well as Mississippi Field Operations, while also serving as Spire’s external representative for the Greater Gulf Coast and Pine Belt regions. She holds both a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration from Faulkner University, along with a Journeyman Gas Fitter’s certification from the Alabama Plumbing and Gas Fitter’s Board. A mentor through Spire’s Fuel Our Perspective leadership program, Dana is known for her ability to build strong partnerships and cultivate meaningful relationships that make a lasting impact.
Dana defines leadership as “the ability to inspire, guide, and empower others toward a shared vision or goal.” She believes true leadership is rooted in integrity, empathy, and accountability and that it thrives where trust, collaboration, and continuous learning are present.
Dana and her husband, Danny, have been married for 28 years. They have two children, Maygen and Chase, and one grandchild who has added even more joy to their lives. The Mayo family recently relocated from Birmingham to Daphne and are enjoying becoming part of the local community. Dana is also a member of Coastal Church in Daphne.
When she’s not working, Dana enjoys traveling, reading, mentoring young professionals, and spending time with family, especially during the holidays. “Whether it’s sharing meals, decorating the house, or just enjoying each other’s company, those moments feel especially cherished,” she says.
Dana’s vision for Southwest Alabama is one of inclusion, empowerment, and connection. “I envision Southwest Alabama as a thriving, inclusive region where every individual, regardless of background, has access to opportunity, support, and a high quality of life,” she says. “My hope is that we continue to build a region where our shared values of compassion, resilience, and collaboration guide everything we do.”
