ArcelorMittal Calvert is partnering with United Way of Southwest Alabama and Penelope House to create a new playground that supports healing and healthy development for children impacted by domestic violence. The project reflects a shared commitment to providing safe, supportive spaces where children can experience play, connection, and stability during times of transition.

ArcelorMittal Calvert provided the contribution that is making the playground project possible. Through this investment, children served by Penelope House will gain access to a play environment designed to encourage creativity, physical activity, and emotional wellbeing.  ArcelorMittal Calvert has been a key partner in building community playgrounds in our area, with this being the third, the first in Mt Vernon and the second at Whitley Elementary.

“Strong communities start with safe spaces for kids. Supporting playgrounds is one practical way we show up for our neighbors.” — Kristen Mosley, Communications & Corporate Responsibility Manager, ArcelorMittal Calvert

Hercules Outdoor Amenities will deliver and install the playground. It will be ready for play very soon.

Penelope House provides critical services for individuals and families affected by domestic violence. The addition of a dedicated playground strengthens the shelter environment by supporting child focused healing and offering opportunities for positive play in a secure setting.

United Way of Southwest Alabama brings partners together to turn strategic investments into meaningful community impact. This project demonstrates how collaboration between corporate leaders and nonprofit organizations can improve outcomes for children and families across the region.
