United Way of Southwest Alabama, in partnership with Verizon, will host the Disaster Resilience Forum featuring Jim Cantore of The Weather Channel on Saturday, December 5, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the University of South Alabama MacQueen Alumni Center, located at 100 Alumni Drive, Mobile, AL 36688.
Jim Cantore, one of the most recognized meteorologists in the nation, will deliver the keynote address. Since joining The Weather Channel in 1986, Cantore has reported on many of the most significant storms in recent history, including Hurricanes Katrina, Sandy, Irma, Dorian, and Michael. His career has made him a trusted voice in disaster preparedness and community resilience. Following his remarks, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a question-and-answer session.
The program will open with a panel discussion featuring local experts on preparedness and recovery. A Verizon representative will introduce Cantore before his keynote address. Exhibitors will include United Way 211, AARP Alabama, American Red Cross, Mobile County Emergency Management Agency, the Governor’s Office of Volunteer Services, the Better Business Bureau of Central and South Alabama, and with additional participants to be announced.
“Bringing Jim Cantore to Southwest Alabama is an extraordinary opportunity to emphasize the importance of disaster readiness in our region,” said Justine Bixler, President & CEO of United Way of Southwest Alabama. “This event gives our community the chance to hear from one of the most reliable source in weather reporting, while also learning from local experts who work every day to strengthen our community’s resilience.”
As part of the Disaster Resilience Initiative funded by Verizon, the forum will highlight strategies that help families and communities prepare for and recover from disasters. Tickets cost $10 per person, and children three and under may attend at no cost. Attendees must request refunds at least 48 hours before the event. The event is open to the public and tickets are available at https://UnitedWayJimCantoreForum.eventbrite.com.
