2021 Staff Spotlight – Delena Wylie
Resource Development Associate Delena Wylie came to United Way of Southwest Alabama (UWSWA) fresh out of high school. She was looking for a job with meaning and purpose, she said, and has been with UWSWA for 23 years.
Delena is most passionate about causes that help people with special needs. Her aunt has Down Syndrome, “…advocating for people with special needs has always been a big part of my life”. Delena said that the United Way project that she’s most excited about is the capital campaign, because more dollars mean we’ll be able to help “the most people possible.” Her favorite volunteer work to do with United Way is helping with the United Way Day of Caring.
Delena loves to travel. One of her most memorable vacations was a trip to Ireland for her sister’s wedding. “Going there and spending all of the time around the country was by far my favorite vacation,” she said.
When she’s not working, Delena loves spending time with her children. “We go to the ballpark and cook out,” she said.
