Nonprofit Awareness Month: Let’s Talk About Connections

By Trista Stout-Walker, Vice President of Community Impact

Let’s talk about connections. One of the highlights of living in a small town is that everybody knows everybody, and you are connected to everyone that you encounter in some way, shape, or form. I have a personal theory that in the South, it is 3° of separation. These connections play a vital role in access to information and services.

In November, we celebrated Nonprofit Awareness Month. We started the month with a proclamation from the City of Mobile to recognize the service of the nonprofit community and the South Alabama Coalition of Nonprofits (SANCP) on Tuesday, November 2nd. This proclamation recognized the impact that the nonprofit community has on Southwest Alabama. United Way of Southwest Alabama (UWSWA) is a member of this coalition and strives to collaborate with all entities to create lasting connections that benefit our community. Additionally, we utilize our health and human service hotline 2-1-1 to provide these connections and information on resources to the community at large. United Way 2-1-1 is the center of the community safety net.
